A soft cover book (also known as perfect bound) consists of a text block between covers of much heavier paper, glued together at the spine with a strong flexible glue.

The text block is notched to more readily accept the glue. Then the cover is applied and is clamped in place for a short period of time to ensure that it stays intact.

The top, bottom and then foredge are finish trimmed.
